How to Use the Everyday Words Counter

Every child develops at their own pace.

This tool helps families quickly gather information about the words their child already uses. You can share the results with your early intervention provider, speech-language pathologist, or pediatrician.

When counting your child’s words:

• Count any word your child says intentionally, even if the pronunciation isn’t perfect (for example, “wawa” for water counts).
• Include signs, gestures, or consistent sounds your child uses to represent a word — baby sign language counts too!
• Words can be in any language your child hears and uses at home.
• Check all the words your child uses regularly, then press Count words to see the total.

This tool is meant to celebrate your child’s growing communication skills and make it easier to share progress with your care team — not to compare or judge. ❤️
